Board of Directors

Message from the Foundation Chair 2018-2019

The West Nipissing General Hospital Foundation had an excellent 2017-2018 fundraising year. We built new partnerships and introduced new initiatives all in line with our mandate to "Inspired and engaged the residents of West Nipissing to give generously to support high quality health care".

We had great success with our various annual fundraising activities that included the Run4Health, Moe Mantha Charity Golf Tournament, Christmas Tree Raffle, Nevada tickets, donations and in memorial donations. In conjunction with le CANO, we held our first Mardi Gras Casino Night Fundraiser. The Hospital raised over $4,000 at this inaugural event. In the future, we are sure to increase our crowd with word of mouth. I thank our local firefighters for volunteering to deal cards at the tables. We are always working towards making improvements to our events to ensure continued success and growth. We are very pleased with the community support that we receive.

In recognition of this, on November 3rd, 2017, the foundation held it's first Donor Appreciation Breakfast. The breakfast was an opportunity to thank our donors and show them how we put their donation dollars to work. They were taken for a tour of the Courtyard, the hospice room, the palliative care room, the oncology department and the potential location for a future CT Scanner. Because of this event, we were able to initiate the development of the new Hospice sign that is lite to indicate if the room is occupied or not. This will contribute greatly to care of the patient and families by ensuring privacy through such a difficult time.

I would like to recognize the West Nipissing Firefighters and their Pink T-Shirt campaign for their generous donation to the Foundation's General Equipment fund. I would also like to highlight the work of Diane Jenner from Diane's Creative Elements. Diane's Knit for Care resulted in a donation of $3,623 towards the Oncology Department as well as many knitted goods for oncology patients. With the completion of the hospice suit, we have also received an influx of in memorial donations directed towards hospice care.

For the 2017-2018 the total donations to the WNGH were $37,757.52. These funds were directed towards the purchasing of a defibrillator & portable ventilator, wheelchairs, and the Courtyard project. The medical equipment we support via donations makes a difference. As funds accumulate in various pools, we await requests from the heads of various departments to make further donations. This leaves the foundation with $57,935.80 for future donations to the hospital.

I would like to thank Kelsey Anger, Colette Anderson and Cynthia Desormiers for their work that make the foundation a success. I would also like to thank our volunteer board members, Collin Bourgeois, Neil Fox, Michelle Brouillard and Tina Halverson, whom generously give their time to the foundation and support all our events.

Throughout the year, we gained strength in our visibility and increased the awareness of the good work done by the foundation. I look forward to another successful year.

Angele Simard

As a funeral director at Théorêt-Bourgeois Funeral Home in Sturgeon Falls, he works to appease the suffering of families living through a difficult time. According to Collin, when families feel confident their Funeral Director will take care of all the details, that lightens their burden: that's why a Funeral Director who is reliable and sensitive to people's needs is so important.

Her enthusiasm and energy has brought her to join the WNGHF in hopes to help out with many of our local events. Tina is currently the General Manager at the Comfort Inn, from the time it was being built, she dedicated her time to the project and now her staff and guests.

Michelle Brouillard (Vice-Chair)

Michelle joined RBC directly after graduating from Laurentian University. Over the last 27 years she has had the pleasure of working throughout North & Central Ontario, in locations ranging from Fort Frances, her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, to Barrie, Huntsville, North Bay and most recently as the Branch Manager in Sturgeon Falls. Almost as varied as the locations she's worked at, are the roles she's worked in.

Michelle has always believed that together we can make a significant difference in the betterment of our communities, through one small act of kindness at a time, coupled with thoughtful action.

Everyone knows that the heart of a community's well-being is the local Hospital, and the quality of care that is provided. Michelle feels very privileged to be part of such a progressive Foundation whose core vision is to assist our local Hospital in the provision of excellent healthcare to all of our local residents.
