As part of the medical professional recruitment initiative, the position of the medical recruitment officer was first introduced over two years ago, and the WNGH is enjoying the positive results of this program. Although physician recruitment continues to be a challenge, the efforts of the medical recruitment officer have led to the development of new recruitment tools and strategies including the introduction of a Family Health Team.
Our medical recruitment officer acts as an advocate for the hospital as well as the West Nipissing Health Professionals Recruitment and Retention Committee which is comprised of a dynamic team of community members including executives from the hospital, community health centre, municipality as well as representatives from other health care providers.

Currently, the community is served by 10 full-time general practitioners, visiting surgeons, specialists, and anesthetists as well as one full-time internist. Our physicians practice in a team environment and have developed a Family Health Group.
The West Nipissing Health Professional Recruitment and Retention Committee is a joint initiative committee which has the main purpose of recruiting health care professionals for West Nipissing. This committee involves many partnerships as many communities have now realized that recruitment efforts require a joint effort of the entire community.
The Committee was established in 2007 and has representation from:
- The West Nipissing General Hospital
- The Municipality of West Nipissing
- The Nipissing First Nation
- The West Nipissing Community Health Centre
- The Au Château, home for the aged
- École secondaire publique Nipissing Ouest
- Northern Secondary School
- École Catholique Franco-cité
- Health Force Ontario – Marketing and Recruitment Agency
- Community Volunteers
Our Mission: is the continuous quest to develop and implement short and long-term strategies to increase health care professional human resources to meet the needs of our population.
1. Identify the current levels of need.
2. Form alliances in order to increase recruitment and retention of health care professionals. Representatives from the local political scene, business, education, economic development, and health care practitioners will work with the Hospital.
3. Establish an action plan for the retention and recruitment of health care professionals for the short and long term.
4. Monitor satisfaction levels on a regular basis as part of the retention initiatives.
Accountability mandate: the committee is accountable to the West Nipissing Municipal Council and the West Nipissing General Hospital Board of Governors.

Our Community is eligible for The Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention (NRRR) Initiative which offers taxable financial incentives to each eligible physician who establishes a full-time practice in an eligible community of the province. The grants range between $80,000 and $117,600 paid over a four-year period. Shape Your Own Practice
100% Fee For Service (@ WNGH):
We invite you to set up your practice in one of our vacant offices in the Health Centre adjoining the Hospital building. These offices are 1,100 sq ft with three exam rooms, a private office, and a large reception area. Your office is furnished and rent is modest; this includes heat, hydro, and air conditioning. Under this practice option, you look after your own administration costs and collect 100% of your fees.

You are welcome to have your own practice in our Health Centre to enjoy all of the benefits associated with an independent practice and will be provided with trained staff to manage all administrative functions, including billing. You will receive an agreed-upon percentage of the fee for service and we will retain a percentage to offset administrative costs.
We encourage you to consider working in our modern Emergency Department. You can select the number of 12-hour or 24-hour shifts you are comfortable working. Remuneration is on an hourly basis, according to the Alternate Funding Agreement (AFA), and Shadow-billing.
